(Nassau, The Bahamas) As part of its ongoing commitment to health and community-based philanthropy, RF Bank & Trust (Bahamas) Ltd. has proudly donated to the Bahamas Down Syndrome Association (BDSA), lending support to their mission to create a future of inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity for individuals with Down Syndrome throughout The Bahamas.
The BDSA, a nonprofit advocacy organization, is working to fill critical service gaps not yet met by the government. Their efforts extend across several islands, with families currently involved from New Providence, Andros, Abaco, Grand Cay, Cat Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Long Island, and Inagua. The Association’s long-term vision includes the establishment of a dedicated facility to serve as headquarters for education, training, support programs, and public awareness initiatives that touch every stage of life—from infancy through adulthood.
“Supporting organizations like the BDSA is part of RF’s broader vision of wealth—one that goes beyond financial well-being to encompass physical, emotional, and community health,” said Rachael Allahar, Group Head of Marketing, RF Bank & Trust. “We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we are proud to stand with the BDSA in their mission to ensure that persons with Down Syndrome are seen, supported, and empowered.”
With this support, the BDSA continues to advance several critical initiatives, including the acquisition or construction of a permanent facility to house their expanding programs. The organization is also focused on strengthening its public awareness campaigns, advocating for inclusion and understanding of Down Syndrome across all sectors of society. A major element of their long-term plan includes the development of five standalone assisted living homes that will offer safe, nurturing residential environments for adults with Down Syndrome who require extra support with daily living. Each home will be staffed with trained professionals to ensure high-quality care and independence. Additionally, the Association is committed to expanding support services for families across both New Providence and the Family Islands, ensuring that access to resources is not limited by geography.
These initiatives address significant challenges, including the limited employment opportunities and lack of financial support available to individuals with Down Syndrome after high school graduation.
Through this donation, RF reinforces its commitment to supporting health-related initiatives—one of the key pillars of the firm’s philanthropic strategy. Whether it’s building financial independence or advocating for a more equitable society, RF is committed to helping clients and communities build wealth in every sense of the word.
